A Simple Guide to Driving for UberEats

pexels-photo-953208.jpeg There are so many service on demand apps that hire workers, or in this case, drivers to deliver items to consumers and get paid. Now I have a few friends who drive for Uber and love it. I on the other hand wasn’t comfortable with riding with a complete stranger in my car so a friend told me about UberEats. UberEats is a service that allows people to order food from a restaurant, and they will have a driver to go pick it up and deliver it to you for a fee.

I was a bit skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. So I signed up online and was sent a text message to download the app on my cell phone. After downloading the app, I had to create an account and submit information which included uploading documents such as my driver’s license, registration and insurance card. After I did all of this, I had to wait until my account was approved. This took about 24 hours in which I was notified when it was completed.

Once my account was approved, it was time for me to give this a try. On my first day, I was very nervous. I didn’t know how this was going to work but I was willing to give it a try. I went to the app on my phone, and slid the button to online and I just started driving. So after about 10 minutes of driving, I get a notification that I have an incoming order. So I immediately accepted the order and started to navigate my trip to the restaurant to pick up the order.

Once I arrived at the restaurant (McDonald’s), I approached the counter and told the cashier I have a UberEats order for pickup. She asked for the name of the person who placed the order (this shows up at the bottom of the screen) which I gave her, and she told me that it will be a few minutes. Now I assume the way this service is supposed to work is that by the time you arrive at the restaurant, the order should be ready for pickup but this was not the case. So I waited for about 5 minutes as they prepared the order. Once I received the order, I clicked the check mark to confirm that I picked up the order, and was asked to rate the pickup experience with a thumbs up or a thumbs down. After that I choose to navigate to the drop off address.

So I arrive at the delivery address and the person was outside to pick up their order. In the app I confirmed that the order was delivered and that is it. It was really simple. Now things will not always go this way. Sometimes you will actually go to the persons door to deliver the food. If they live in an apartment building that requires a key to get in, you will have to call the person to have them come down and get their food. If they live in a gated community, you will have to contact the person to come and meet you at the gate to retrieve their food.

There are times when you will get two orders at a time for pickup at the same restaurant. If this happens, you will pick up both orders at the same time, but the app will navigate the drop off locations one after the other. So you will never run into any confusion when trying to make the deliveries. You can also earn tips in which a customer will give you cash or they can tip in the app. You can check this in the earnings section.

The more deliveries you complete, the easier it gets. I only go online about two to three days of the week and work no more that two hours at a time. It really depends on my schedule. So far I have made a total of $1, 140.58 this year doing this as a side hustle and it is only the middle of April. This amount does not include any cash tips I have received. I posted a screen shot of my earnings below so you can see the proof.  So far this week I have made $21.58 and I received $10 in cash tips and that was from working less than 1 hour! Talking about a quick way to get extra cash!

I have a few tips to offer if you decide to give UberEats a try and they are:

  • wear comfortable shoes because you will be in and out of your vehicle
  • learn your areas and don’t be afraid to venture out past your immediate area. The GPS is there to guide you. The closer you are to a busy city, the more orders will come in.
  • Try to meet the weekly promotions to earn more money. If you do 20 trips, you get an extra $25, 45 trips you get $45, 95 trips you get $125, and 120 trips you get $205.
  • Busier times tend to be around lunch (12pm-3pm) and dinner(5-9pm) so try to plan your trips around these times if you can.

The more hours you put in, the more money you make. It is just that simple! Just simply log in and drive. If you are interested in giving this side hustle a try, click here to get started.

***BONUS***

Since you will be filling up your tank more often, why not save up to $0.25 per gallon on your fuel purchases. There is an app called GetUpside that can tell you which stations near you participates in this program. All you would need to do is select a participating station, pay for your gas purchase and get a receipt, and take a picture of that receipt in the app and you will get the amount of savings deposited in that app. You can cash out via PayPal or you can have a check mailed to you. There is a service fee to cash out if you are under the threshold of $15 (PayPal) or $50 (paper check). You can also save money at participating restaurants and grocery stores as well. If you would like to download the app  click here and make sure you use my invite code JBF2B.

This is yet another income stream I have that will get me closer to quitting my 9 to 5. If you would like to learn about additional side hustles I have, click here for my eBook.

Thank you. I always want to give as much information as I can for anything I recommend. I was that person looking for how it worked and could never find a detailed post about how to do it. So I did it to get the experience and created my own post. Thanks and best of luck to you also.
